Tickets.com Attacking Ticketmaster Dominance With Open Cloud Systems

Network World (06/15/10) Brodkin, Jon

Tickets.com's John Rizzi is hoping to gain market share through a series of partnerships based on new cloud computing technologies. Following a wave of ticketing company acquisitions, Tickets.com currently sells tickets for 50 percent of Major League Baseball teams. The company is selling ticketing systems to sports teams and other organizations, and Rizzi expects Tickets.com's alliances with various cloud vendors, using application programming interfaces to link one service to another, to fuel industry innovation. For instance, Tickets.com collaborates with Qcue to supply a dynamic pricing engine to teams such as the San Francisco Giants. Other partners Tickets.com is forging ties with include Salesforce.com, StubHub, Givex, and FanSnap. Rizzi has promised to improve customers' ticket-purchasing experience. "We really believe the ecosystem is what's going to drive innovation and the adoption of our ticketing platform," Rizzi says.
