
With Pop Stars Flocking to Korea, $1.7 Billion Concert Market Emerges

According to the Korea Performing Arts Box Office Information System, ticket sales in Korea's concert market tallied 1.7326 trillion won last year — an 18.8 percent year-over-year increase and the highest figure since such statistics have been compiled. As the spread of K-pop continues and more major pop stars and overseas bands perform in Korea, the country is establishing itself as a strategic market. While there's some concern that the rapid growth is outpacing the development of infrastructure, this year's schedule for overseas artists visiting is only going to become busier in the third and fourth quarters. This fall, numerous concerts by international artists will be concentrated in the Goyang area of Gyeonggi Province, including live performances by Post Malone, The Weeknd and Charlie Puth.
