
Tony Awards Winners: ‘Schmigadoon!’ Takes Best Musical, ‘Liberation’ Best Play
Deadline (06/08/26) Evans, Greg; Hipes, Patrick; Gomez, Dessi The 79th annual Tony Awards at New York’s Radio City Music Hall this past Sunday saw the stage adaptation of Apple TV series "Schmigadoon!" and Bess Wohl’s Pulitzer-winning "Liberation" win Best Musical and Best Play, respectively. The top winner of the night was the revival of Arthur Miller's "Death of a Salesman," which scored a half-dozen Tonys, including Laurie Metcalf for Best Featured Actress in a Play (her third career Tony win) and Best Revival of a Play. "Schmigadoon!" and "The Lost Boys" each took home four Tonys, with the latter nabbing both featured performer prizes for actor Ali Louis Bourzgui and actress Shoshana Bean. As for other top categories, John Lithgow won for Best Lead Actor in a Play for "Giant" (his third Tony win) and Lesley Manville won for portraying Mark Strong's wife/mother in "Oedipus." Finally, "Ragtime" won Best Revival of a Musical. The ceremony was hosted by pop star P!nk, who showed off her talents in the opening performance of “Lady Marmalade” with an array of special guests.
