Women’s Professional Baseball League Kicks Off In Springfield, Ill.

Forbes (08/02/26) Freedman, Dan The Women's Professional Baseball League (WPBL) kicked off this past weekend in Springfield, Illinois, marking the first women's professional baseball to be played on U.S. soil in more than seven decades. Despite some rainy weather, the Los Angeles Queens topped the New York Heights 10-8 in the sold-out inaugural game. Denae Benites hit the first home run, and Maggie Foxx recorded the first hit. The league is the brainchild of Commissioner Justine Siegal. It features four teams with 60 players from 11 nations. ESPN has agreed to stream all 37 games, and the WPBL aims to expand with more teams in future seasons. Read the full story from  Forbes .
