Lucas Museum Celebrates Opening Night With Star-Studded Gala Ahead of Public Debut

ABC 7 Southern California (09/20/26) Pennacchio, George "Star Wars" creator George Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, opened their long-awaited Lucas Museum of Narrative Art to the public on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The five-story, 300,000-square-foot venue is devoted to visual storytelling across centuries, cultures and media with works ranging from comic books and film props to paintings and illustrations. The $1 billion museum is located in Los Angeles' Exposition Park and boasts over than 100,000 square feet of exhibition space across 30-plus galleries. Artists represented include Frida Kahlo, Norman Rockwell, Vincent van Gogh, Charles Schulz, Robert Crumb and many more. The museum's cinema collection includes the complete Lucas Archives from 1971 to 2012 with an inaugural exhibition titled "Star Wars in Motion" featuring concept designs, props and other items associated with vehicles from the first six "Star Wars" movies.
